EXAMPLES OF FDA CORRUPTION Dear John, I thought this might be interesting to you and your readers. I have listed four of 700 falsified reports to date, promoted by the FDA. The FDA gladly assist the associated press with false information concerning the dietary supplements; ma huang for instance. At the same time they approved the very dangerous and harmful drug fen fen. Which has been pulled due to some of the television interviews with people who have been plagued with permenate heart conditions. Keep in mind that if the FDA will use these 5 excuses they will use 695 more, just as ridiculous. "A 56-year-old male reported experiencing 'tremors' after ingesting a ma huang product. He also happened to consume 10-12 cups of coffee a day." (ARMS No. 8475) "A woman ingested a ma huang product and died. The cause of death happend to be a high-speed automobile crash that occurred while she was driving the wrong way on a one-way street" (ARMS No. 9504) "A 15-year old female experienced an accelerated heart rate after ingesting a ma huang product. She happened to take 19 pills during a suicide attempt." (ARMS No. 10378) "A 20 year old woman reported that she passed out and suffered a scalp laceration. This is attributed to the use of a ma huang supplement even though the woman also took Nyquil and drank two glasses of wine immediately before passing out." (ARMS No. 9253) "ARMS No. 10067 simply list the name of a ma huang product and nothing else. No adverse event is reported - yet this is one of the FDA's list of 700 adverse events." Chinese ephedra (Ma huang) has been used for more than 5,000 years. Few substances have as well documented historical and scientific safe use as this herb and its alkaloids. Ephedra is a mild stimulant, but this is not its major befefit. The Chinese Materials Medica reports that ephedra has been used for hypotension, bronchial asthma, chronic and asthmatic bronchitis, pneumonia, common cold and whooping cough, among others. It appears ephedra is more like chicken soup than an amphetamine. (All of these examples are taken from the November 1996 HEALTH SUPPLEMENT RETAILER. The article attributed the following claims to an article by Marc Ullman, an attourney for the New York-based Bass and Ullman. The article was published in HSR's Supplement Industry Insider.) thanks again for the sweat and hard work you do. Duane
